State BBQ Championship

Valley caterer takes top chicken honors, named Reserve Grand
Champion Smokin' Steve's Pit Barbecue scored impressive wins at
the fourth annual "Red Hot & Real," the California state BBQ
championship in Clovis, CA. The Simi Valley catering company
took first prize in the chicken category and was named Reserve
Grand Champion for placing second in overall scoring.
Attracting 70,000 visitors, Red Hot & Real featured over 40
noted teams from California and the western states.
Representatives of the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS)
served as judges.
Smokin' Steve's won top honors in chicken using their
exclusive "Birds and Bones" rub. This same chicken recipe
brought Smokin' Steve's first prize at the 2007 "Smokin' in the
Park" state barbecue championship at the Viejas Casino in
Alpine, CA.

Strong performances in other categories, including third
place in pork, combined with the chicken victory to earn Smokin'
Steve's the 2008 Reserve Grand Championship at Red Hot & Real,
second place overall.
"We're incredibly proud of our showing at the state
championship," said Steve Bayles, co-owner of Smokin' Steve's.
"With this latest win, our chicken is starting to make a name
for itself."
